There is an irony to the press release and our commercial cultural devotion to this color. Coral reefs are amongst the most diverse ecosystems on the planet. They require, as all healthy ecosystems do, an awareness and respect of the fine balance that makes that system thrive. If too many predators are eliminated by the fishing industry, as one example, then an overgrowth of seaweed begins to consume the light necessary for the ecosystem to thrive. I am continually returning to this incredibly refined and delicate fabric that makes our world thrive. It is the foundation of my work. Life Line in Living Coral was created from suspended pieces of sheer coral fabric, a vibrant and serene tone, establishing a path that leads, ever deeper, into the heart of the piece. At the center there is a large vessel of water with an infusion bag dripping into it at the rate of an average human heart beat. Water makes up 80% of every human body and over 71% of the Earth’s surface and is essential for human existence. Light is the electro-maganetic pathway that generates photosynthesis, cleaning our air and feeding our cells.
